Get a marriage in Lisbon

Our Second Attempt to Get Married in Lisbon: A Bureaucratic Challenge

Hello,

We are Bodo and Penky, currently living in the metropolitan region of Lisbon. We are overjoyed and plan to tie the knot here by the end of the year. After that, we plan to move to Davao City, Philippines, in 2025. However, this is our second attempt to get married in Lisbon, as we faced numerous bureaucratic hurdles the first time.

Our First Attempt: Harassment and Bureaucracy

Last year, we already tried to get married in Lisbon. Despite submitting all the necessary documents correctly, we were poorly treated by the Portuguese registry offices. They were unfriendly, unhelpful, and created unnecessary difficulties for us. It felt like harassment against non-Portuguese speakers, which ultimately led to Bodo's certificate of no impediment from Germany expiring before we could complete all the formalities. This frustrating setback initially thwarted our wedding plans.

The Second Attempt: New Documents and Additional Costs

Now, we are determined to try again. This time, we are gathering all the necessary documents for a new certificate of no impediment from Bodo's old hometown, Berlin. For a binational marriage like ours, this means not only significant bureaucratic effort but also high costs. Every document needs to be translated and apostilled, which is time-consuming and expensive.

Conclusion

Despite the challenges, we remain optimistic and determined to celebrate our wedding in Lisbon. We look forward to the day we can finally say "I do" and to our life together in Davao City. It may be a rocky road, but the prospect of our shared future gives us the strength and motivation to overcome all obstacles.

Stay tuned for updates on our journey and wedding plans!

Best regards,

Bodo & Penky
